Chef Juan Carlos and his wife Teresa Quiros take pride in using only the freshest ingredients, whether it’s fish bought right off the beach that morning or papayas grown on their own farm, blended into a refreshing smoothie, $3.

There’s no better way to start your meal than with the Peruvian ceviche, $5, the nearly raw marlin splashed with the side of lemony sauce and scooped atop delightfully crunchy and salty fried plantains is hard to forget.

The must have main dish at Casa el Tortugo is undoubtedly the whole fish, market price. An entire red snapper, caught that very morning, is lightly fried and seasoned with garlic, salt and pepper and served up with salad and the unforgettable fried plantains.

For those who aren’t in the mood for fish, the grilled chicken salad, $6.50, made with romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, sliced red onions, chunks of soft cheese and fried plantain chips with lemon dressing on the side, and the chicken fajitas, $8, served beside warm corn tortillas, pico de gallo and sour cream sides, are satisfying, both in taste and aesthetics.

Ambiance

Slightly removed from the main town, the patio seating is quiet and comfortable, with surrounding nature and a river view.

Service

Personable and laid back, Juan Carlos takes his time to make sure every dish is beautifully presented and prepared for excellent taste.
