Costa Paraiso is an intimate, immersive boutique hotel nestled among gardens of tropical flora featuring five villas, a pool and a restaurant, each with oceanside views just a mile south of Dominical.

Rooms

Built along a hill dense with tropical vegetation only a minute's walk from Dominicalito Beach, the hotel's colorful villas surround its restaurant and pool. Two of the villas features complete kitchens and two double beds while the rest are furnished with microwaves, water coolers, coffee makers, toasters, A/C, Wi-Fi, minifridges and safety deposit boxes. The Toucan Nest, $99 in wet season (April-Nov.), includes a king-sized bed that looks out through French doors past the deck to where the Pacific greets Dominicalito's rocky edifice; the best view of all the villas.

Restaurant

The patio and dining area at Costa Paraiso's restaurant, Porque no?, looks out over the Pacific; open to the sea breeze and the sound of the rolling waves. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Porque No? pairs comfort food like homemade, brick-oven baked pizzas, $10, and basil, garlic hamburgers, $12, served alongside fresh-cut french fries with creative traditionally-inspired dishes like prawn avocado patacones, $10; a crispy, fried plantain shell filled with grilled shrimp, avocado and a mango salsa.

Head Chef Shelby Tett creates nightly specials that incorporate his international culinary expertise while emphasizing the best of the local ingredients like in the homemade paella, $12, made with locally caught red snapper, shrimp, spicy chorizo, sweet peppers, green beans and saffron rice.  For dessert, Tett makes his own ice cream and gelato, like the tiramisu gelato, $3, made with homemade vanilla bean ice cream with lade fingers, whipped meringue, cocoa powder and whipped cream.

Services & amenities

Costa Paraiso's hammock laden second-floor patio, gazebos and pool area ensure that you'll find a cozy and secluded spot to enjoy the day. Reception supplies board games, cards and books while surfers can borrow a board and head out to Dominicalito. The staff is approachable, courteous and extremely helpful whether looking for things to do around the hotel, tours, or just a friendly conversation.
