Enjoy three and a half miles of the class III Grande de Orosi River just before it joins the Reventazón River, a major source for San Jose's drinking water and electricity.

A shuttle picks you up from your San Jose hotel and chauffeurs you one hour away to the Orosi Valley, the closest rafting destination from the capital.

Just before you sit on your raft, you receive a helmet, life vest, paddle, and a safety talk in both Spanish and English. A security raft full of knowledgeable white water experts pulls slightly ahead of you to photograph the rest of your adventure.

Navigating down the Grande de Orosi River normally takes a couple of hours, but it can go faster and be more intense depending on the amount of rain that fell the night before.

Fist-timers will find it easy enough to successfully conclude, yet exhilarating enough to make your adrenalin flow like the very rapids they are riding, with each crash of the waves cleansing their nerves away. The pace is manageable with several rest stops where the boat veers off to the far edge of the river to catch your breath.

Once you have conquered the cold river, you are driven back up to home base where you will find on-premise showers and a restaurant filled with various art pieces. You will sit near the river underneath a wild cane eco-roof as you feast in celebration with warm food and rejuvenating drinks. While most people know better than to expect a gourmet dining experience through an adventure tour, you will be too busy scarfing down food to make up for the energy you exerted on the trip to even notice the taste.

Your food choices include:

  • Rice with chicken

  • Casados with salad

  • Rice and beans with either chicken, beef, or fish.

The meal is followed up by a simple tasting Jell-O ice cream as a dessert. The highlight of the entire meal is a refreshing blended fruit drink made up of fresh bananas, pineapple, papaya, and lemon. The protein from the food and the electrolytes from the drink help rejuvenate your body, but don’t be surprised if you still find yourself taking a quick nap on the ride back, due to the adrenalin crash. But before you jump on the shuttle back to your hotel, make sure you purchase the DVD of your photos for an extra $20, as the memories that you take with you will be worth sharing with your friends and family back home.
